Mr. Alfredo Valencia

1st Degree Black Belt

I was born in a small town in Mexico and emigrated to the USA when I was 18 years old. I met my wife here in Alabama and we got married in 2001.  We have a son named Joseph, who is currently a student in Helena schools.  When Joseph started kindergarten in Helena Elementry we signed him up for karate and he really enjoyed it. Once Joseph was a purple belt, we started going to the dojo in Alabaster and train with Renchin Jay Fredrick.                                                           For many nights I was sitting on the chair at the dojo watching Joseph train in karate, and one day Renchin asked me if I wanted to join as well.  After Joseph earned his black belt, I agreed to begin taking classes. I am now a first degree black belt and teaching kids karate. Karate transports me to a different place from the daily work routine by helping me to focus on something else and giving me peace.                                                                                                                                 I'm also a Chef at the Sheraton Birmingham Hotel, where I have worked since 2002.
