SanDan Melissa Black started training in IKF Karate in February 2003, after watching her son Jeremy training under Shihan Jay Fredrick for a few months. SanDan Black started karate not only to learn self-defense, but for the physical fitness of the sport. Since joining, she has found so many more reasons to continue training and to continue improving herself.

SanDan Black's family is involved with IKF Karate, with husband Tom, 1st. Degree Black Belt, son Jeremy, 2nd. Dregree Black Belt, and daughter Lauren, 1st. Degree Black Belt.

SanDan Black earned her 1st. Degree Black Belt in February 2005, and began teaching in June of the same year. SanDan Black earned her 2nd. Degree Black Belt in February 2006, and earned her 3rd. Degree Black Belt in September 2008.

SanDan Black says she is very proud to be a member of the International Karate family and has the highest respect for Sensei Nichols and all the members of this great federation.
